Vasa Radio To Go Virtual
In the words of Vasa Radio Hour host and emcee Leonardo Quamba (affectionately referred to by adoring fans as “Dr. Quamba”), “The show must go on!” Thus, for the second consecutive year, the staff of the popular, local variety show has decided to play it safe and go virtual.
“We know that this will be disappointing to many Dr. Quamba fans,” commented Assistant Executive Producer Roger Nieboer, “And we really wanted to get him back in front of a live audience, but the timing just isn’t night.”
Vasa Radio Hour staff sought the advice of local medical personnel, state epidemiologists and the CDC, before arriving at a difficult but unanimous decision. “Our goal has always been to pack as many people as possible into the Paradise. But we just didn’t want to put anybody at risk: cast, crew, or audience. We’ve seen the devastating effects of COVID. We just didn’t want to become a super-spreader event,” added Nieboer.
The upside to all of this is that this year’s show, which will livestream on YouTube at 7 pm on Saturday, Feb. 12, will offer a wider array of performing artists ranging from local to international acts.
“Thanks to our sponsor, Welia Health, we’ve got a little bit of everything, from percussive dance and a zen clown, to the homegrown rock-n-roll of The Groove. Above all, it’ll be a fun show. And we can all use a little bit of fun right about now,” summarized Quamba.
