Here is a rare photo of Woody Gardner.

Woody is the man who tends to the garden, the horses, the vineyard, the trees, the varmints, everything outdoors… He has a one track mind, best to stay out of his way.
Woody loves his job and gets along fine with the critters outdoors. Not so well with anyone or anything else.

Inspiration leads to impact at SPIRE Annual Meeting & Member Appreciation Event

President/CEO Dan Stoltz poses with performers from Circus Juventas

Falcon Heights, MN
SPIRE Credit Union held its 84th Annual Meeting & Member Appreciation Day on February 17 with the theme, “Let us inspire you.” Based on the response by the record audience, SPIRE did just that.

A record-setting audience of over 4,400 attendees overfilled the main auditorium of Grace Church’s Eden Prairie Campus and were treated to an opening performance by Circus Juventas – a non-profit performing arts circus school that provides, “ordinary children with extraordinary opportunities.”

The event also broke giving records for SPIRE.  The meeting benefited Second Harvest Heartland as attendees donated enough food and funds to provide nearly 1,500 meals to Minnesota families in need.  Attendees also had the opportunity to purchase candy bars as part of the SPIRE Give Back Team’s yearlong initiative to raise funds for Gillette Children’s Specialty Healthcare in St. Paul.  As candy bars sold out, attendees of the meeting raised over $500 for healthcare organization.

During the business meeting, SPIRE President/CEO Dan Stoltz shared how SPIRE has had a record-breaking gold medal year. SPIRE experienced steady loan and member growth, asset growth five times higher than the national average and was awarded several regional and national recognitions.  SPIRE Board Chair Tom Heinzen provided an economic status report of the credit union where he stated, “As SPIRE nears $1 billion in assets, I along with the Board of Directors, look earnestly to 2018.”

The event ended with a special video thanking SPIRE members, partners and supporters for making SPIRE Credit Union what it is today.  Each person attending received $25.

Reflecting on the event, Stoltz stated, “This year’s meeting was the best ever.  Hearing from so many people how they appreciate the investment of time and treasure SPIRE puts back into our communities, makes me so proud of SPIRE and our staff who work every day to improve the lives of our members.”

Great News from Anytime Fitness!

Anytime Fitness can help you reset—just in time for spring.

If you’ve had a hard time sticking to your New Year’s resolution, don’t worry: you’re not alone. Numerous studies show the vast majority of people who resolve to lose weight or improve their fitness levels abandon their plans by mid-February.

Whether you didn’t have enough time, didn’t know where to start, or didn’t even make a New Year’s resolution—it’s not too late to get to a healthier place this year! In fact, now might be the perfect time to get started.

“Gyms are packed with new members who have the best intentions during the first few weeks of the year,” said Robert Haase the owner of Anytime Fitness. “In reality, the date you start has absolutely no impact on your likelihood of success. The people who are most likely to succeed are those who are willing to make a few, simple lifestyle changes to be healthier and happier for the rest of their lives.”

Experts recommend the following to achieve your fitness goals:

  • Develop a routine. Exercise several days a week at the same time each day. Consider it your “me time.”
  • Give “group training” a try. It’s less expensive than personal training and the support you receive from others is invaluable. Join with a friend or make new ones.
  • Track your activity and eating habits on a free fitness app – and share that information with a coach at your local gym. Accountability—and proper coaching to get back on track when you slip up—turns would-be quitters into winners.

SPRING INTO FITNESS

Whether you’re looking forward to spring break and warm weather or you simply want to melt away the extra pounds you gained over the winter, Anytime Fitness is offering a special deal to anyone who would like a reset. But it’s a limited-time offer, so you’ll need to act fast.

Any new members who join the gym March 5 – 7 will receive 30 days free, a free 30-minute training session, and a free 30-day “Get Started” fitness plan.

“A common reason people abandon their New Year’s resolutions is that they have a wish, but no plan.” said Haase “Our free training session, combined with our free 30-day fitness plan, will help anyone get off to a good start. And once you start to see real, measurable results, it makes it easier to stick to the plan. Envisioning a new you becomes realistic, no longer merely a dream.”

The bottom line is, it doesn’t matter whether you broke your New Year’s resolution already or never even made one. Tomorrow is a new day—a perfect day to get started on a new you.

SPIRE Wins National Financial Literacy Award

Congratulations to SPIRE Credit Union!

(L-R) Jim Nussle, CUNA President & CE, Dan Stoltz, SPIRE President & CEO; and Mark Cummins, MNCUN President & CEO

Falcon Heights, MN
SPIRE Credit Union has been honored with the second place 2017 Adult Desjardins Financial Education Award.  Sponsored by Credit Union National Association (CUNA), the award recognizes leadership within the credit union movement in the area of adult financial literacy.

SPIRE’s commitment to educating adults throughout Minnesota on financial topics has landed them in the national spotlight for the first time.  They also won the Adult Desjardins Award on the state level for three consecutive years.  Throughout 2016, a record-setting 1,052 adults from varying needs and sectors of society were reached with over 110 classroom hours.  This is a 64% increase over the preceding period, and is higher than any preceding year of SPIRE offering financial education.

“We are absolutely humbled to be recognized on the national level,” said Dan Stoltz, SPIRE President/CEO, “Our employees work so hard to give back to their communities through financial literary education.  To see them acknowledged at this level makes me proud to have them on Team SPIRE!”

The award is named in honor of Alphonse Desjardins, the founder of the North American credit union movement, who established the first “caisse populaire” (people’s bank) in Quebec in 1900, and helped establish the first American credit union in New Hampshire in 1909. Desjardins was an ardent believer in the value of teaching children to save, and he promoted the idea of in-school savings programs.
